About us

A community built on heritage and care.

Tigray Community Seattle is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving our cultural heritage, strengthening community connections, supporting newcomers, and empowering future generations. Through cultural programs, community services, education, and advocacy, we foster unity and create opportunities for Tigrayans in the Pacific Northwest.

Our story

Tigray Community Seattle was established to bring together Tigrayans living in the Pacific Northwest and to create a strong, supportive, and connected community. Since its founding, the organization has worked to preserve Tigrayan culture and traditions, support individuals and families, and provide programs that strengthen community bonds. As our community continues to grow, we remain committed to serving current and future generations through unity, cultural preservation, education, and community engagement.

What we value

  • ሓድነት — Unity

We show up for each other across generations and circumstances.

  • ባህሊ — Heritage

Language, faith, food, music, and memory carried with pride.

  • ትምህርቲ — Education

Investment in our young people is investment in our future.

  • ኣገልግሎት — Service

Mutual aid is not charity; it is how a community survives.

Leadership

Our board and program leads are volunteers from across the community — parents, elders, teachers, students, and professionals. We meet monthly and welcome community input on every major decision.
