Programs

How we serve our community.

Five core programs, all volunteer-led, all funded by community donations and small grants.

01

Youth & Mentorship

መንእሰያት

The Youth & Mentorship Program supports young members of our community by providing educational guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth, all while helping youth build the confidence, knowledge, and skills they need to succeed academically, professionally, and as active citizens. By offering after-school academic support, college and career preparation, leadership development, and mentorship from dedicated volunteers and experienced community members, the program creates an environment built on a foundation of positive guidance and meaningful relationships where participants are constantly encouraged to pursue their personal goals and reach their full potential. Furthermore, a core element of this framework is inspiring youth to actively engage in community service, cultural activities, and volunteer initiatives—transformative experiences explicitly designed to strengthen their leadership skills, instill a deep sense of responsibility, and foster a lifelong commitment to giving back to their community.

Tigrinya Language School

ቋንቋ ትግርኛ

The Tigrinya Language School is dedicated to preserving a vital piece of our cultural identity by helping children, youth, and adults of all experience levels develop strong Tigrinya language skills. Through engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate weekend classes, students learn to read, write, and speak Tigrinya while mastering the Ge'ez alphabet and script, its historical significance, and everyday conversational pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Creating a welcoming and confident environment for both absolute beginners and advanced learners, the curriculum goes beyond standard instruction to introduce traditional stories, songs, expressions, and cultural values that deepen each student's understanding of Tigrayan heritage. With parents warmly encouraged to support this learning at home, our ultimate goal is to provide a quality language education that empowers current and future generations to communicate confidently, appreciate their rich heritage, and keep the Tigrinya language vibrant and alive within our community.

Each gathering showcases the richness of Tigrayan culture through traditional music, dance, authentic food, clothing, storytelling, and cultural performances, creating a welcoming space where younger generations can experience their heritage and the wider community can learn about Tigrayan values. Open to absolutely everyone, including community members, families, and guests, these events offer diverse activities ranging from community meals and family initiatives to youth performances and volunteer opportunities. Ultimately, our goal is to preserve and celebrate Tigrayan culture while creating meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to connect, participate, and build a strong, welcoming community in the Seattle area.
